Who makes the best home well pump?

Subject: Who makes the best home well pump?
We are doing some re piping. We get along fine with a 3/4 hp 220v pump. The one in there now is a plastic pump about 2 or so years old. The meyer cast pump lasted about 20. I get tired of buying made in china crap for things like this that only last a few years. The plastic pump dad put in is going one way or another. I don't like them. It is a shallow well. Ed Boysun

I have a couple Goulds J5S on two of my wells. Their 3/4 HP version would be a J7S.
Very good pumps, IMHO.

How shallow? I have been putting in Jet Stars from Orscheln and they have become absolute junk. We are 90 feet deep, and am considering putting in a lower HP deep well pump for better life. stone picker

Goulds or Myers are good pumps, most will last 20-30 years unless they get hit by lightning. Grundfos are good but pricey. OHKen

I would rather buy a good used Myers on e-bay, than all the chinese junk that is peddled now.

The well is probably 25' deep and we are about 12' to water. I have to do some asking around on who sells either brand here. The well company that had meyer is no longer in business. dave morgan

one submersible on a 200 ft well, and one jet on a 150 ft well since mid 70s...Have changed the motor on the jet three times now, and the seal once...Jet takes either a 1 hp or 3/4 hp motor, have used each size-no change in life...bladder tank eliminated starting too many times and last motor has been with us for a long time...The sub has never been out of the well, capacitors changed once after electric storm.
both are Myers...Goulds had a good reputation here, haven't heard anything about them in several years...Bradford sells them here.

Our well is 186' deep, use a 3/4 hp Myers deep well jet. So far since we are on our 2nd pump. Probably could have had the first one rebuilt but would have had to wait 2-3 days so put in a new one. Have a new 3/4hp Myers on hand in case the one goes bad. John SD

Why put in a jet pump if it already has a submersible? IMO, assuming quality of the pumps is equal replacing a sub with a grawlix jet is going backwards. There are not many things in this world that I totally despise. Jet pumps are very near the top of that list.

That's the advantage of having a pump with the capacitors in an above ground control box. Components hit by lightning can be changed without pulling the pump. Got one range well pump the control box has been changed out several times over 25 year but have never had to pull the pump. cr39

I have put in two Simmer submersible pumps within the last five years and are working very well. My wells are only 20' deep to water at the most and 50' deep. The Simmer pumps cost around $400 and I bought them at Lowe's and Menards. I put in a Simmer jet pump last summer and it isn't working now. I wouldn't put in another jet pump. A submersible pump, you don't have to worry about priming it or having to have a pit for it to go in like I did with the jet pump. flyndeere
