So how much should LED tape lighting cost?

We finally got our bid on the tape lighting after our UCL fiasco of a week ago or so (see link). It seems really high (around $1800)! But maybe I haven't a clue (actually, I know I don't).

I'm hoping some experts and those who have BTDT can tell me what roughly 18 feet of tape lighting should cost for materials, labor and installation.

Thank you so much!

Description

Our Flexible COB LED Strip Light series creates a seamless line of light from start to finish. The all-new strip design uses flip-chip LEDs to eliminate visible LED dots (hot spots). The all-new chip-on-board technology not only improves light quality but also improves the thermal management and flexibility of the strip. The smaller LEDs can be packed tighter and weigh much less than the bulkier 5050 LEDs, creating a strip that can work around the needs of your application. The spotless output makes the COB LED strips ideal for narrow applications like display cases and backlighting, or where reflective surfaces such as granite and tile are used.

High Output, Quality Light

The COB LED Flex Strips hold a whopping 512 LEDs per Meter which creates 1400 Lumens/M of smooth continuous light emitting at 180 degrees. The wide viewing angle and a continuous stream of light make this a serious upgrade from the flexible strip lights you are used to.

Colors

LEDSupply’s COB LED strips are offered in: Red, Green, Blue, Warm White 3000K, Neutral White 4000K & Cool White 6000K.

Custom Lengths

Unlike most suppliers, we offer COB LED strip lights in smaller 3-foot increments up to 16.4 feet long (1 Reel = 5M). Some applications might need a shorter section of strips which is why the LED strips can be cut every few inches. You can cut the strip along the cut marks which feature a thin black line running over solder pads. Max Run Length = 2 full reels - 32.8ft.

End-to-End Connections

When there is a break in your application you can still run one strip to another using 20-24 gauge wire or LED strip connectors. TAKE NOTE: COB LED Strip's maximum run length is 32.8 feet (2 reels). After the maximum run length, the voltage drop becomes too great and you will lose light and efficiency from your system. If your application needs more than the maximum run length you will have to get another power supply or run wires from the extra strip directly back to the first power supply (wiring in parallel).

Connections can be made by soldering wire in between strips or by using solderless clamps. Only one end of the strips comes with a plug on it (except for full reel lengths which have 2) so if you want to make more connections you will need to solder or use strip connectors. Here is a good tutorial on wiring the strips together if you'd like more information.

Power

The strips need 24VDC input. This requires either a battery or 24V Power Supply. The strips run at roughly 14 Watts/M. Please make sure you have enough wattage when running your specified length. The below wattage chart has accurate wattage calculations for each length shown.

Detailed Wattage Table for 24V Spotless COB LED Strips LENGTH WATTAGE Feet (Ft) Meters (M) COB Strip Wattage (W) 1 0.3048 5.9 2 0.6096 10.9 3 0.9144 16 6 1.8288 27.8 9 2.7432 40.8 12 3.6576 49.7 16.4 (Full Roll) 5 (Full Roll) 58.4

Connecting to power can easily be done with simple wire-to-wire techniques such as soldering, wire nuts, electrical tape, etc. If you have a plug-in adapter with a barrel plug on the end, these screw-in terminal power plugs help turn the wire leads into a simple plug-in connection.

Dimming

The strips are fully dimmable and can be used with 24V PWM dimmers. The dimmer will go between your power supply and strips. Find compatible controllers below in the PWM Dimmers section.

If you require an AC Dimming Control from Lutron or Leviton, use a dimmable power supply.
