In the world of commercial refrigeration and temperature-sensitive storage, cold room panels play a pivotal role. Essential for creating controlled environments, these panels are the backbone of walk-in coolers, freezers, and various temperature-controlled storage facilities. But what exactly are cold storage panels, and why are they so crucial?

At their core, cold room panels are prefabricated panels used to construct the walls, floors, and ceilings of cold rooms. These panels are designed to provide excellent insulation, ensuring that the internal environment of the cold room maintains consistent temperature levels. This insulation is not only crucial for preserving the quality of stored goods, be it food, pharmaceuticals, or other temperature-sensitive products, but also for energy efficiency. By maintaining a stable internal temperature, cold room panels reduce the energy required for cooling, which in turn lowers operational costs.
The technology behind these panels has evolved significantly over the years. Modern cold storage panels are typically made from materials like polyurethane or polystyrene foam, sandwiched between two layers of structural material such as steel or aluminum. This construction not only provides robust insulation but also adds structural integrity to the room. Furthermore, these panels are often equipped with features like tongue-and-groove joints, which ensure a tight seal and further enhance their insulating properties.
Fire Resistant Panels
PIR insulation panels are frequently used if fire-resistant panels are specified for cold room, chill store and clean-room environments. A fire rating of up to 1 hour can currently be achieved from panels with a PIR core.
Panels with a mineral wool fibre core are now a major consideration due to their excellent fire resistance and insulation properties, and P. H. Insulations are a major installer of this type of panel. The mineral wool core wall and ceiling panels we offer are able to maintain a fire resistance of up to 4 hours for walls, and 2 hours for ceilings.

There is an increasing preference with building authorities, fire authorities, and insurance companies, for the use of insulated panels with a mineral fibre core, due to the safety and environmental benefits combined in their insulation and fire-resistant qualities.
Composite panels are all self-finished and can be provided simply with primed steel facings suitable for painting on site or in a variety of finished facings so no painting or other site finishing is then necessary.
Fire-rated doors and windows are available with finishes to match. All installations of fire-resistant panels are carried out to manufacturers recommendations and all carry LPCB certification.
We operate from a 10,000 sq. ft. workshop and storage facility. We order insulated panels to meet installation needs, however we do carry a stock of insulated panels, including fire-retardant insulated panels for use in emergency situations, or for when our customers need them at short notice during shutdown periods. This helps reduce or avoid down time on site, enabling maintenance to proceed as scheduled, while maximising production time.
