What Is A Pin Gauge

A pin gauge is a round bar with specific dimensions made of white steel, tool steel, ceramic, tungsten bearing steel, etc. or other materials with high hardness. It is a standardized inspection tool for holes. Appearance forms are smooth pin gauge, pin gauge with shank, titanium plated pin gauge, ceramic pin gauge, and etc.. It is widely used in various fields of high precision technology such as electronic boards, circuit boards, molds and precision machinery manufacturing.

How to Use the Pin Gauge

1. Check the measuring surface before use, there should be no rust, phi, scratches, black spots, etc.; the mark of the pin gauge should be correct and clear.

2. Remove the anti-rust oil, dust, adhesion, phi in the hole before measurement.

3. Wear gloves to operate the pin gauge according to the operation principle.

4. The role of the pin gauge must be in the cycle of calibration period, and accompanied by a certificate of conformity or mark, or other documents sufficient to prove that the plug gauge is qualified.

5. The standard conditions of the pin gauge measurement: the temperature is 20 ° C , the force is 0 . In actual use is difficult to achieve this condition requirements. In order to reduce the measurement error, try to use the pin gauge and the measured parts in the isothermal conditions for measurement, the force used should be as small as possible, do not allow the pin gauge force to push into the hole or rotate while pushing in.

6. Measurement, the pin gauge should be inserted or pulled out along the axis of the hole, can not be tilted; pin gauge into the hole, not allowed to turn or shake the plug gauge.

7. The pin gauge is not allowed to detect the unclean workpiece.

8. The use of the pin gauge, that is, the left hand to hold the measured parts, the right hand to hold the pin gauge, aligned with the parts of the round hole bit vertical gently cut into, in addition, do not use excessive force cut, to prevent damage to the pin gauge and inaccurate measurement data.

9. In the work table operations, do not make the pin gauge bending and sliding down to the ground.

10. The choice of pin gauge, that is, according to the size of the diameter of the measured parts on the drawing, in the diameter range, first choose the smallest gauge, such as: a round hole diameter of 3.00 ± 0.005mm, should first use 2.950 pin gauge test 2.950 pin gauge into the larger pin gauge test in turn, such as 2.950 pin gauge is not into the smaller pin gauge test.

11. The pin gauge reading, both in accordance with the value marked on the surface of the pin gauge can be read, the number measured with the pin gauge should be a range, that is, into the value and not into the minimum value. For example: a round hole diameter: 3.00 ± 0.05mm., with 2.950 pin gauge test can enter, and with 2.975 pin gauge can not enter, then the diameter of this round hole is 2.950-2.975mm, operation records for 2.950 (can enter)-2.975 (can not enter), in addition, this round hole with a larger than 3.050 pin gauge can enter or smaller than 2.950 can not into, then the hole is not qualified.

12. Pin gauge after use should be put into a small bottle with anti-rust oil for proper storage.

Maintenance of Pin Gauge

&#; The pin gauge must not measure to water or corrosive parts, to prevent the pin gauge is corroded and rusted and can not be used.

&#; When using the pin gauge, we should wear gauze gloves or rubber finger cover before picking up, to prevent hand sweat corrosion in the pin gauge.

&#; Each time before using the pin gauge, we need to check whether it is still in the effective calibration period, such as more than the calibration period need to notify the relevant departments to correct.

&#; Pin gauge should be rubbed with anti-rust oil regularly to prevent oxidation and rust.

Pin gages are used to gage bored features. They're commonly used in combination to produce a "Go-No Go" gage that quickly qualifies a bored hole. Pins are especially useful for gaging the straightness of a relatively deep bore.
