I might boil a sample in RIT dye for an hour and see how deep the color gets.

I found a local supply house and a plastics engraving business. Both of them give me scrap acrylic. One charges a small fee, the other keeps it in a box and I go get it every month or so when they call me.

I'd look for it locally if possible' Usually makes for lower cost test materials' I've made a number of projects out of their scrap' Most of their scrap was larger than my project' what's not to like'
