Subsurface Drainage In Central Ohio
COMBO or the Central Ohio Mountain Biking Organization is a non-profit organization that provides quality mountain biking opportunities in Central Ohio by constructing and maintaining trails. In May 2020, the organization was experiencing an epidemic in the trails being used. This in turn caused a great deal of wear and tear to the trails. The increased use as well as heavy rain created a number of drainage problems that needed to be addressed quickly.
COMBO had used GEOTEX® non-woven geotextile in the past to repair areas of the trail with similar problems and was very successful. The group reached out to Propex and chose GEOTEX Non-woven 601 to address this issue.
Non-woven geotextiles are perfect filter fabrics due to high flow rates and small openings which makes them ideal for use in subsurface drainage applications. The 3-D structure easily allows significant amounts of air and water to pass through the fabric while blocking soil particles. Non-woven geotextiles have the highest permittivity and water flow rate which is up 25 times the flow rate of woven geotextile.
