Sorry you're going through this. Unfortunately from my experience and what I've been told by multiple mechanics it is common for the Captiva and other vehicle that use this engine. They burn oil faster. If the oil isn't checked regularly as the owner's manual suggests, the oil will burn well before an oil change is needed, and low to no oil will kill your engine. Whether or not it's worth replacing the engine is dependent on your financial situation and how well will you take care of the car going forward if you decide to replace it now that you know this is a problem. I have a Captiva. Brought it in Dec with 58k. Now has 122k. These are known to burned oil as I've been told by multiple mechanics. Ours starts rougher as the oil leaks, burns, or evaporates. We've had our fair share of problems with the car especially last winter. What's helped us though is I typically check the oil every two weeks or so (every other fill up, but the owner's manual recommends every fill up). I carry a spare quart in my trunk. I've been adding between one and two quarts between oil changes. This has helped us tremendously and fortunately a couple of mechanics gave me this advice when I had my oil changed so that my car didn't die. I tried full synthetic and didn't notice much of a difference so I'm back to synthetic blend. I don't change the oil until the car or the owner's manual says so (many shops will tell you more often to make money). Hope this helps.

If the current size tyres are 235/60, then suggest you go for 255/55 or 265/55 profiles.
265 will give u a very slightly more ground clearance. but its hardly much so no point thinking of that.
255 would be best as 265 would make the steering wheel slightly tighter. I like it, would personally go for 265, looks awesome too!
Best tyres in the market are the Pirelli Scorpion STR! second would be the Yokohama's.
Other than this, You could also buy the aftermarket DoubleDin Stereo Fitting Console, so that u can remove your stock, good for nothing, stereo and put in a nice pioneer dvd changer with 7" screen! and all the extras too with it.
Congrats on the purchase, btw!
